LiDBA History

The aim of The Liphook & District Businessmen’s Association [LiDBA] has always been to be of service to the community, particularly the young and disabled.

Following its formation, LiDBA ran a number of fund-raising events, such as a Donkey Derby. They then held a Charity Auction at Bohunt School for many years. Not your normal quiet saleroom stuff, but all of the school premises were used for the whole weekend. Months were spent collecting all sorts of furniture, pianos (nobody will ever forget moving the pianos!!), toys, clothes and bric-a-brac. The best was auctioned, the rest were sold off in a giant departmental jumble sale.

In 1991 the Auction was replaced by LiDBA's first charity Bike Ride. This annual event was our main charity effort held every June for 25 years. At its peak there were in excess 1400 riders participating, and over £60,000 raised annually. After 25 years we handed the running of this event over to The Crankers.

Unfortunately, primarily due to the Pandemic and logistical challenges, this event ceased in 2022.

LiDBA continue to raise funds for local charities by organising other local events such as quiz nights.

The majority of LiDBA members are now retired. They come from all walks of life, but still share a wish to help the community, whilst enjoying themselves socially.
